Eleshea Williams: Charity Social Media Marketing Panel: Adding Social Value to Social Media

At SocialDay's Social Media Marketing Festival 2025, we’re shining a spotlight on how purpose-driven organisations are adding social value to social media. Eleshea Williams, Social Media Officer at Amnesty International, joins the Charity Social Media Marketing Panel: Adding Social Value to Social Media alongside Tom Fishenden to explore how charities can harness digital platforms to create meaningful, impactful change.

About Eleshea

Eleshea Williams knew from the start that she wanted to use social media for good — to cut through the noise of negativity and create content that drives real-world action. Her journey began at a small education-focused charity, then took her to UNICEF UK, and now, she’s bringing powerful human rights stories to global audiences through her work at Amnesty International.

Whether it’s encouraging someone to sign a petition, share a post, or take part in a campaign, Eleshea’s focus is clear: using social to educate, inspire, and empower.

Eleshea’s Perspective on Social Media Trends

“The growth of LinkedIn for social purpose has been something that’s really excited me,” says Eleshea. Amnesty has tapped into a fresh, mission-aligned audience there — proving that professional networks can also be powerful advocacy spaces. She’s also keeping a curious eye on the rise of Bluesky and how alternative platforms are reshaping the digital landscape.

A Social Media Moment That Mattered

Eleshea’s proudest moment came in 2020, following the murder of George Floyd. She created a campaign through a social enterprise that highlighted overlooked moments in Black British history. It sparked corporate partnerships, political interest, and donations — but most importantly, it brought inclusive education to the forefront of the national conversation. “It reminded people of the importance of learning inclusive histories.”

What She Hopes for the Future of Social

Eleshea wants to see more of what makes social media great: real-world impact. Movements like #MeToo, Black Lives Matter, and #WomenLifeFreedom prove that social platforms can be tools for powerful, lasting change. “I’d love to see this carry on,” she says.
